Final preps for NZ CIO Summit 2011 underway
We’re currently in final preparations for the CIO Summit of Monday week – NZ’s Premier Event for Chief Information Officers. The Summit will be held at the SKYCITY Convention Centre on Monday/Tuesday 27-28 June.

We were impressed by the relevant and topical thought promised to be included by Summit organisers (Bright*Star Conferences, CIO Magazine and IDC New Zealand). Below is their introduction to the event Agenda:
“The role of the CIO is constantly evolving; from the roots of the role as a technician and guardian of information, to a partner and leader of the innovation agenda in the business. The CIO role is shifting to include revenue generation, marketing and customer service in some cases. With changing responsibilities comes the need for a changing skill set, and reflection on how the CIO can best deliver innovation, technology and value to the business.
Featuring a mix of top-level local and international thought-leaders and practitioners, the 2011 New Zealand CIO Summit will deliver in-depth discussion on the evolution of the CIO role from information guardian, to technology enabler, to innovation partner and to business leader. Enjoy the learning and networking opportunities with over 500 senior attendees, as we inspire, enthuse and engage you with leading-edge content and speakers.”
With our offering of reach extending solutions, we are looking particularly forward to the following sessions at the Summit:
-Andy Lark from Dell USA, who will be talking about Enterprise 2.0: How the Cloud, Web 2.0 and Consumerisation are Converging to Reshape Enterprise IT.
-Michael Harte from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, who will be talking about CIO Options for IT Delivery.
It’s one of the more minor discussions we’re most interested in however – “Progressing IT’s Position in the Business”. The discussion of how the IT function can be a source of organisational competitive advantage and if IT is seen as a commodity or as a strategic asset. We know we certainly operate under the pretence that it can and should be treated as the latter – looking forward to the dialogue.
If you’re going, be sure to visit Olympic’s Russell Weaver, Kim Nankivell and Malcolm Bramley at Stand 53. We’ll be focusing on showcasing how the 'reach' of your core systems can be extended through the smart application of Olympic's pure-play "2" tools: 2-Integrate, 2-Flow & 2-Ecommerce; as well as the role Microsoft's Online Services can play in pursuit of this outcome.
Be sure to visit our stand also, to test your knowledge! If you've got 4 questions worth of correct answers, we'll put you in the draw to win a NETGEAR Home Stora, home media network storage unit (RRP of $412). Olympic’s version of a CIO, Malcolm (Bramley – who is also forming the questions) is seriously considering purchasing one of these for his own home-entertainment, so make sure you don’t get your head too lost in the great line-up of sessions and come give his smarts a run for their money!
